you can use it for pictures or video rather easily. you are able to focus the telescope itself and it comes with a case that has a slot for you to slide the telescope over the camera lens of the phone. the case itself is a great phone protector if you dont mind the part thats there for you to slide the telescope in.
check out these pictures i took so you can get an idea of how close you can get. the first 3 of every row is without the lens starting at no zoom then half zoom then full zoom. the next 3 are then with the lens at no zoom then half zoom and then full zoom.... sorry for them not being that crisp of a photo i either had the sun in my eyes or the sun directly on the phone so i was having trouble seeing
